Easy Install of part but with Complications
Must remove both front door panel and touch panel. New touch panel comes with wire connection, so simply pinch and pull old connection out of main control board which is the big gray boxy unit that has a bunch of wires going to it. Pop in the the new connection after installing the the new part. Herein lies the complication hopefully you won't encounter. The main control board should be securely mounted to a steel plate at the top right. Unfortunately, whoever put together my unit didn't make the wires long enough to reach the mount. It was installed floating, which subsequently caused it and a couple wires to melt into the black molded plastic behind it. Fearing this could be a fire hazard, I pulled it and the embedded wires off and remounted it so that as least part of it was on the steel plate, securing it with electrical tape. The new Touch panel came with a new wire connection, so pinched out the old and added the new after installing the new panel with the door in more upright position. Slid in the front decorative panel, holding it in place with stocking feet and hands while lowering it for husband to put in the screws. Works great again. Not a difficult fix. Intuitive how panels slide into place. Made certain to turn off power before working. Tested with a meter to be sure. Should get at least another eight years out of her. Been a great dw. $182 panel is a lot but so much less than a new $1000 dw! Just a note, I tested the connections of both the main control board and the touch control panel with a voltage meter while under load (power on) to determine which one to order.
