What to do you’re your Porter Cable jointer/planer won't power up
Power supply problems, a bad power cord, a tripped motor overload, a bad on/off switch, a wiring failure or a failed motor can prevent your planer from running.
Check the electrical outlet for power. Reset the house circuit breaker for the outlet if the electrical outlet is dead.
If the electrical outlet has power, unplug the planer and check the power cord for damage. Repair or replace the power cord if it's frayed or cut.
If the power cord is okay, check the wiring connections on the power switch and motor (with the planer still unplugged). Reconnect any loose wires and repair any broken wires.
If the wiring connections are okay, then you may need to replace the on/off switch or the drive motor.
Maintaining your Porter Cable jointer/planer
Rotate or replace the knife blades often on your jointer/planer. Unplug the planer to disconnect electrical power before making any adjustments or replacing parts.
Regularly blow out all air passages in the planer with compressed air to keep the planer running smoothly.
Clean all plastic parts with a soft, damp cloth after each use. Never use solvents to clean the plastic parts of the planer. Solvents can dissolve or damage plastic planer parts.
Periodically tighten all nuts, bolts and fasteners on the planer. Check for loose fasteners if you hear unusual noises when using the planer. Unusual noises often indicate that fasteners are loose.
