Anode rod 100110266 attracts and neutralizes corrosive particles found in water to help extend the life of the water heater tank.
Disconnect electrical power to the water heater, turn off the water supply and drain the tank before installing this part. Wear work gloves to protect your hands.

It's a shame you don't make them the right length for the heater since you have to enter what heater you have to order it.
