Gasket Bent

The gasket is bent from being folded and put into the box it was shipped and possibly stored in. The instructions say to heat the gasket to restore the original shape . The heat makes the gasket get the wavy marks out of it but the bent magnetic strip inside the gasket will not straighten. I used a heat gun to heat it up and if it was any hotter the gasket would have melted. I also put an old dog door magnet that I cleaned in the space between the magnet and gasket part that is attached to the door to see if it will straighten out. The storage method for these gaskets is flawed. They need to not be folded and if space is a problem then have the stores that sell the inferior products, like the Frigidaire Convertible Freezer this gasket was for, provide the space for the parts. Frigidaire can split the storage space costs with Home Depot since they sell refrigerator/freezers that only last 2 years with compressors failing and cost over $1000. Hopefully this gasket will actually work, I just installed it and hour ago, and hopefully it will out live it's predecessors short life span of 4 years. As far as installing this gasket goes, when you take the screws out under the gasket they hold the whole inside white plastic shelf section of the door up so be sure to remove all the items in the door and have a second person around to help hold the shelf section up to put the first screws in after installing the gasket. It is not easy to hold with one hand and line up to put the screws back in. This gasket was for the Frigidaire Convertible Freezer/Refrigerator FGVU21F8QF of which we purchased 2. One used as a fridge the other a freezer. The fridge in the kitchen stopped working at 2 1/2 years.
