Ice maker 5988JA1001H includes the ice mold and the control device. The ice maker receives water from the water inlet valve and then holds the water in the ice mold until the water freezes solid. It then automatically ejects the ice and refills to continue the process until the ice storage bin is full.

There is only one screw in the top left that needs to be removed, then you can just pull/slide the entire unit forward. This will allow you to disconnect the wire harness and pull out the unit completely. Pay attention to the orientation of the wiring harness as you remove the old one, and install the new in reverse order. Works like a charm! Took about 10min to install.

LG ice maker repair.

There is 3 screws to remove and one wiring connection to uninstall. After that remove ice tray. Remove ice tray sensor from bottom of ice tray. Remove sensor wire from clips. Remove motor wiring from clips and unplug from on/off switch. Remove motor and replace with new motor and sensor. Reverse previous directions for reinstall. Press on/off button to on position. Hold down reset button on bottom of new motor to test . Should cycle thru.

Beware of professional service providers who might claim hours of labor to install; this piece if machinery clicks into rhe designed plastic holder without hardware or tools! Probably no need to replace the specific, expensive plastic bins, holders, etc. Do the homework, little there is, on this replacement, and boom! Fixed. Thanks to simple ordering at Sears, saved $ and works fine now. Hmmmm.
