Part Information

Basic Information

  • Part Name: Washer Drive Shaft and Shifter Assembly
  • Manufacturer: LG
  • Category: Washing Machine Drive System
  • Primary Function: This assembly is responsible for converting the motor's rotary motion into the back-and-forth movement required for the agitator or wash plate, and it includes the shifter responsible for shifting the washer from wash to spin cycle.

Technical Specifications

  • Dimensions: The exact dimensions vary based on the specific model but typically fit within the central tub area of compatible washing machines.
  • Power Rating: Not applicable as it is a mechanical component.
  • Material: Constructed from high-strength metal alloys for the shaft, with durable plastic components for the shifter assembly.

Installation & Compatibility

  • Compatible Models: This part is designed to replace AEN73131403 and is compatible with various LG and Kenmore Elite top-load washer models.
  • Installation Difficulty: Medium to Complex—Installation requires disassembling a significant portion of the washing machine to access the drive shaft and shifter.
  • Tools Required: A standard set of hand tools including screwdrivers, a socket set, and potentially a spanner wrench specific to washing machine tub nuts.

Additional Information

The Washer Drive Shaft and Shifter Assembly (AEN73131406) is a crucial component that often needs replacement due to wear and tear over time, which can manifest as noises during the wash cycle, the washing machine failing to agitate or spin correctly, or leaking from the tub seal. This assembly is engineered to meet the exact specifications of the original part and ensure a perfect fit and long-lasting performance when installed correctly.

When replacing this part, we recommend you review the service manual for your specific model to understand the detailed steps involved. Since the process can be intricate, involving the removal of the washer's inner tub and possible recalibration of the machine, have a professional technician perform the installation if you are not familiar with appliance repair. It's important to unplug the washing machine and turn off the water supply before attempting any repairs to avoid electric shock or water damage.

It Fit and fixed my problem.
September 16, 2023

I Would give 5 stars but the mounting flange had six holes for mounting the part to the drum and only three of them were tapped to accept the bolts. I still installed it and haven't had any issues but the factory one had all six installed. My washer was making a horrible grinding noise and this fixed the issue.

It fit perfect except 3 holes not tapped
July 28, 2023

It fit and went on easy. U need a 38mm deep socket and impact gun to easily remove the tub nut. I used a 2 x 4 and a ranger strap to remove the agitator. It will be stuck on. You do not have to remove the inner tub to replace this part. If u have 6 bolts on the stator u have to tap 3 holes out or just use the 3 bolts only

defective part
January 03, 2023

Part was defective. 3 of the 8 mounting holes for the motor windings on the bottom of the housing assembly were not tapped. Had to use my tap set complete the holes. I knew if I returned the item, it would be weeks before a I could get a replacement.

Difficult Install
March 26, 2018

Washer plate was stuck on shaft. Needed to bolt a 2" x 4" on to it for leverage to finally wiggle it loose. Needed to obtain special 38mm socket to remove tub retaining nut. Nut was very tight all the way off. Removal & replacement without an air impact wrench would have been impossible. Tub was stuck on shaft. Eventually broke loose with more wiggling. Shaft seal split & top half remained stuck in tub bottom but pried loose eventually. Good news is squeak is gone on heavy cycle with new drive part installed. New pump drained tub as it should eliminating the OE error code. New main board eliminated endless spin cycle & failure to shut off. Cleaning all parts & hoses gave everything a fresh start.
