Instructions

  1. 01.

    Shut off electrical power

Electric ranges typically have 2 house fuses or a double breaker, one for each 120-volt leg of the 240-volt power. To prevent electrical shock and damage to the control board, remove both fuses or shut off both breakers (if a clip connects the double breakers, shutting off one should shut off both).

Tip: You can unplug a freestanding range at the wall instead.
  2. 02.

    Remove the existing coil element

The prongs of the coil element are pushed into the terminal block receptacle that's under the cooktop.

Tilt the coil element up slightly and then pull it straight out of the receptacle.

  3. 03.

Push the new coil element into place

Position the new coil surface element in front of the receptacle and push it in until it properly seats in the receptacle. Press the new element down on top of the drip pan.

  4. 04.

    Restore power to the range

Turn on the electric power to the range.

Warning: Undertaking repairs to appliances can be hazardous. Use the proper tools and safety equipment noted in the guide and follow all instructions. Do not proceed until you are confident that you understand all of the steps and are capable of completing the repair. Some repairs should only be performed by a qualified technician.
