Common Porter Cable router replacement parts
- Drive motor brushes. Drive motor brushes transfer electricity to the motor armature to turn the router motor shaft. As the motor brushes wear out, the drive motor runs weakly or won't start at all. Replace the motor brushes if they're worn.
- On/off switch. The on/off switch sends power to the drive motor to spin the router shaft. Replace the on/off switch if the router won't turn on when you flip on the switch.
- Collet. The collet holds the cutting bit in place. Replace the collet if it's worn or damaged.
- Guide bushing. The guide bushing fastens to the bottom of your Porter Cable router and guides the movement of the router. Replace the guide bushing if it's damaged or worn.
- Motor bearing. The router drive motor bearing attaches inside the motor housing to allow the motor shaft to spin. Replace the motor bearing if the router makes loud noises or vibrates when running.
- Power cord. The power cord supplies the router with electrical current. Replace the power cord if it's frayed or damaged.
What to do when your Porter Cable router won't start
A failed power supply, broken on/off switch, broken power cord or failed drive motor can prevent your Porter Cable router from starting.
Check to see if the electrical outlet works by plugging another electric tool or a small appliance into the outlet. Reset the house circuit breaker for the electrical outlet if the outlet is dead. Plug the router's power cord into a different outlet if resetting the house circuit breaker doesn't restore power to the electrical outlet.
If the outlet works, check the power cord for damage or disconnected wires. Reconnect any loose power cord wires. Replace the power cord if it's damaged.
A failed on/off switch can also prevent the router from starting. With the router unplugged, check for continuity through the on/off switch with the switch turned on. Replace the on/off switch if the meter doesn't measure continuity.
