Not cleaning dishes

If your Maytag dishwasher isn't getting the dishes clean like it should, make sure you’re loading the dishes correctly to allow proper water flow. Check that the water temperature is between 110 and 120 degrees Fahrenheit, as lower temperatures can reduce cleaning efficiency. Adjust your water heater as needed.

Mechanical issues can also affect cleaning performance. A failed water inlet valve may restrict water flow, while a broken detergent dispenser might not release soap properly. Inspect the spray arms for clogs, damage, or jams, and clear any blockages or replace faulty parts to improve cleaning results.

Won't drain

When your Maytag dishwasher won't drain after a cycle, first check for clogs in the kitchen sink drain. If there’s no blockage, try pressing the Cancel button on the control panel, as this often activates the drain pump. If draining issues persist, potential causes include a broken drain pump, a damaged check valve, a clogged drain path, or a faulty control system.

Leaking

If your Maytag dishwasher is leaking from the bottom of the door, it might be due to a damaged or stuck spray arm creating waves inside the tub. Check the spray arms for damage and make sure they spin freely. Leaks around the front door could also stem from a loose or broken door hinge or a damaged door seal.

Leaks under the dishwasher may result from a faulty drain line, a broken heating element water seal, a leaking pump and motor assembly, or a compromised water inlet assembly. Unplug the dishwasher and inspect the bottom components to identify and fix the leak.

What to do when your Maytag dishwasher won't start

If your Maytag dishwasher won’t start, push firmly on the door near the top to ensure it’s fully latched. A broken door switch can also prevent the cycle from starting; test the switch with a multimeter and replace it if needed.

If the door switch is working, check for issues with the control panel, user interface, or electronic control board. Dishwashers with a mechanical timer control may also fail to start if the timer is defective.
