Whirlpool Ranges

Official Whirlpool range parts

Whirlpool offers ranges in a variety of sizes, styles and fuel types to fit any kitchen. These ranges feature top-of-the-line innovations that enhance your cooking capabilities. Some Whirlpool ranges include smart appliance features so you can control your range from your smartphone or tablet. When your range isn't working as it should, find the repair parts you need on the Whirlpool range parts diagram for your model and get your stove fixed fast.

How to fix your Whirlpool range when the oven doesn't work

If the oven isn't heating to the baking temperature you set, the oven temperature sensor could be malfunctioning. Or the problem could be with the electronic oven control board, which controls oven functions.

You can test the oven temperature sensor probe by unplugging the range and measuring sensor probe resistance using a multimeter. It should measure about 1,080 ohms of resistance through most Whirlpool temperature probes at room temperature. Refer to the tech sheet for the probe’s resistance specification for your range. The tech sheet should be either inside the control console or taped to the back of the range.

Replace the oven temperature sensor probe if the multimeter doesn’t measure the correct resistance through the probe. If the probe is okay, then you may need to replace the electronic oven control board.

If your oven uses a control thermostat instead of an electronic control board to control oven temperature, the oven control thermostat may have failed.

In a gas range, a weak oven igniter may intermittently fail to ignite the oven burner, preventing the oven from reaching the set temperature.

Common Whirlpool range parts that break

  • Radiant surface element. The radiant surface element is on the bottom of a ceramic glass cooktop and provides heat for that area of the cooktop. It's controlled by a surface element switch (also called a surface burner switch or infinite burner switch). The radiant surface element has a limit switch that shuts off the element to protect the ceramic glass cooktop from overheating. You may need to replace the radiant surface element if it doesn't heat.
  • Oven temperature sensor probe. The oven temperature sensor probe is inside the oven, near the top of the back. It detects the temperature inside the oven. Temperature is measured by the change in resistance in this sensor, which is why the sensor is also referred to as a Resistance Temperature Detector (RTD). A wire harness connects the oven temperature sensor probe to the electronic control board so the sensor can communicate the oven temperature to the control board. Replace the oven temperature sensor probe if it doesn't accurately detect oven temperature.
  • Oven door lock assembly. The oven door lock assembly is a safety mechanism that prevents burns and oven fires by latching the door shut during self-cleaning. The door unlocks when the oven cools to a safe temperature (usually less than 200 degrees F). It's also used on ovens with the child lock-out feature. The assembly includes the lock and switches that detect whether the door is locked. Replace the oven door lock assembly if it stops working.
