Testing dinnerware or cookware before use in a Caloric microwave hood combo
To test a dish or cookware for safe use inside your microwave, put it into the oven with a cup of water beside it. Start the microwave at 100% power for one minute. If the dish gets hot, do not use it.
Some dishes (melamine, some ceramic dinnerware, etc.) absorb microwave energy, becoming too hot to handle and slowing cooking times. Cooking in metal containers not designed for microwave use could damage the oven, as could containers with hidden metal (twist-ties, foil lining, staples, metallic glaze or trim).
Common replacement parts for Caloric microwave hood combos
- Grease filters. Grease filters are aluminum mesh air filters that trap grease residue from smoke that gets drawn through the microwave hood combo by the exhaust fan.
- Light bulbs. Light bulbs illuminate the inside of the microwave hood combo cavity and the cooktop below the microwave hood combo.
- Cooking tray. The cooking tray holds foods being cooked inside the microwave cavity and rotates to cook foods evenly.
- Charcoal filter. The charcoal filter eliminates odors from exhaust air when the microwave hood combo exhaust system is set up to circulate exhaust air back into the kitchen space.
