Shear pin 738-04124A connects the auger to the rotating drive shaft. The shear pin is made of soft metal that purposely shears off or breaks to protect the transmission and motor if a foreign object or hard-packed snow binds the auger.

What's to say? It's a shear pin, a deliberate weak point designed to fail before more severe damage can occur. I do wish the securing clip was included, but a cotter pin works just fine.

What good is shear pin without the cotter pin to keep it in place. It should have been included. Very disappointed !!
