Reviews
Luckily they are still available
Good that these parts are still available to rebuild the stater. Wish whole assembly was still available so that you won't be forced to buy a new starter.

Most DIYers Can Intall This
Exact fit part, no problem there. Plastic gear teeth engaging with metal flywheel teeth is an odd design but mine lasted over 15 years. Need to remove some engine cowling to get to the starter bolts. C-clip ring holding the top cap on the pinion gear assembly is tricky. You'll need to apply enough downward pressure on the top cap to flatten the spring washer underneath while prying the C-clip out of the groove it sits in. Do this before loosening the starter motor from the engine. Pinion gear is a quick swap out but pay attention which side is up when disassembling. Maybe mark the top with a Sharpie before removal. Once new part is installed, probably better not to lube with anything heavier than WD-40, if at all, as gear needs to slide down the spindle quickly once the engine turns over. Button it all up and go cut some grass.

Difficult it took hours
Very hard to get at the starter. Had to pull flywheel which took special tool. Once I was there replacing the gear went ok. Very time consuming.

Have what I need every time
Starter gear pinion broke and needed a replacement quickly. I ordered with next day shipping and had them in two days. Knew the delivery date so had the motor already disassembled so when the part showed up I was able to get it installed and back together in less than an hour and a half. I ordered two gears and retainer clips so that I had a spare on hand. Great service.

Starter part replacement
It took about an hour to get the starter out, 10 minutes to install the gear, and another hour to install the starter and sheet metal.
