What to do when your Trane air handler won't move air

  • Check the air filter. A clogged air filter won't let any air go through the air handler. Replace the air filter if it's dirty.
  • Check the vent grill. A blocked or dirty return air vent grill can inhibit air flow through the air handler. Move any items stacked in front of the return vent grill. Clean the vent grill if it's dirty.
  • Check the house circuit breaker. If the air handler blower motor isn't running at all, reset the house circuit breaker for the hair handler. If the motor still doesn't run, you'll likely need to have a service technician examine and repair the air handler.

Top-selling Trane air handler parts

  • Air filter. The air filter traps dirt, dust and lint from air going to the evaporator or heat exchanger.
  • Blower motor capacitor. The blower motor capacitor briefly increases the voltage to the blower motor to help the motor start.
  • Blower fan motor. The blower fan motor spins the blower wheel to circulate the air through the evaporator or heat exchanger and out into the home.
  • Blower fan wheel. The blower fan wheel attaches to the blower motor and circulates the air through the evaporator or heat exchanger and out into the home.
