Common Amana furnace problems

  • Won't turn on. When your Amana furnace won't turn on, check the power supply. Reset the house circuit breaker for the furnace. Many Amana furnaces have a light switch beside the furnace unit that shuts off power to the furnace. Check that light switch and turn it on if it's switched off. Check the thermostat setting and adjust the settings if needed to turn on the furnace. A blown fuse, bad interlock switch or failed electronic control board can prevent the furnace from turning on.
  • Won't heat properly. Check the air filter. A clogged air filter will prevent ventilation air from circulating through the heat exchanger properly. Replace the air filter if it's clogged with lint. Check the thermostat settings and adjust the settings if necessary. Check the gas or oil supply. Restore an adequate fuel supply to the furnace if necessary.
  • Thermostat not working. Shut off the house circuit breaker to disconnect electrical power to the furnace and check the wiring connections between the thermostat and the furnace electronic control board. Reconnect any loose wires and repair any broken wires. If wiring is intact, you'll likely need to replace the thermostat.

Common Amana furnace parts that need replacing

  • Air filter. Replace the air filter monthly or as directed in your furnace’s owner’s manual. Replacing the air filter regularly helps keep the furnace running smoothly and helps the furnace last longer.
  • Thermostat. The thermostat turns the furnace on and off. The thermostat can eventually wear out or break. Replace the thermostat if it doesn’t control temperature accurately or doesn’t turn on the furnace at all.
  • Blower motor. The blower motor often runs for long periods without stopping. The bearings that support the motor shaft can wear out over time. Electrical problems inside the motor can also prevent the blower motor from running. Replace the blower motor if it doesn’t run or makes loud noises when running.
