Installing a saddle valve for your Whirlpool reverse osmosis system

  • Shut off the main water valve for your house and open faucets to bleed off water pressure from the cold water pipes.
  • When attaching the saddle valve to iron pipe, drill a 1/8-inch hole for the valve pin.
  • Connect the needle valve to the pipe.
  • For copper or plastic pipes, carefully turn the valve handle to pierce the pipe. For an iron pipe, turn the valve handle to shut the valve.

Replacing the O-ring in a leaking quick-connect water fitting on your Whirlpool reverse osmosis system

  • Wash your hands thoroughly before handling the water fitting.
  • Shut off the water supply to the reverse osmosis system. Open the faucet and bleed pressure off the water supply line.
  • Disconnect the water line from the quick-disconnect fitting.
  • Using a small slot screwdriver, remove the collet and O-ring from the quick-disconnect water fitting.
  • Clean the port of the disconnect fitting.
  • Lubricate and insert the new O-ring into the bottom of the port. Push the collet into the port until it locks in place.
  • Reinstall the water line and turn on the water supply going to the reverse osmosis system.
