Most common Whirlpool furnace parts that need replacing

  1. Heating element. Electric Whirlpool furnaces use a coil heating element to heat the air in your home. When a coil inside the heating element breaks, the furnace won't heat and a house circuit breaker will trip if the broken element coil shorts to metal inside the furnace.
  2. Gas control valve. The gas control valve supplies gas to the burner when safety sensors indicate that it's safe to ignite the burner.
  3. Wall control thermostat. The wall control thermostat detects the temperature inside your home and cycles the furnace on and off to maintain the set temperature.
  4. Air filter. The furnace air filter removes dust and other particles from the air circulating through your home as the furnace runs.

How to fix your Whirlpool furnace when it won't turn on

  1. Check the thermostat settings. Adjust the thermostat setting to call for heat if the thermostat temperature is set too low.
  2. Check for power. Check the house circuit breakers to see if a furnace circuit breaker tripped. Reset any tripped circuit breakers. Many Whirlpool furnaces have a cut-out switch beside the furnace cabinet. Make sure that switch is turned on.
  3. If these tips don't help, you may have a bad interlock switch or a failed blower motor.
