Can be done but not easy
The left axle was leaking from a groove worn in the axle at the oil seal. Removing and splitting the transaxle case is somewhat difficult. The top pulley can remain in place but if removed it is easier access to the oil filler plug and easier to remove the gear sellector detent ball bearing and spring which if removed makes putting the case back together much easier. Look for the screwdriver sized indentation on the side of the case to use to pry the case open. Wear gloves when handling the opened case and gears...they're sharp! Check the anti rotation washer for excessive wear. Replace all 3 oil seals before closing up the case.
